How to choose a commercial air conditioning contractor

Questions to ask before hiring an air conditioning contractor: F-gas certification, what the quote includes, warranties, programme and aftercare.

Short answer

Check F-gas company and engineer certification, get a written specification with the make, model, capacity, refrigerant and everything included, confirm who handles electrics, condensate, access and paperwork, and agree servicing so the manufacturer warranty stays valid.

Questions to ask

  • What is your F-gas company certificate number, and which engineers will handle refrigerant?
  • What make, model and capacity are you quoting, and which refrigerant?
  • Does the price include electrics, condensate pumps, access equipment and making good?
  • How long will installation take and can you work out of hours?
  • What commissioning records and F-gas paperwork will we receive?
  • What warranty applies and what servicing does it require?

Red flags

  • No survey before quoting a multi-unit job
  • No unit make or model on the quote
  • Re-gassing without finding the leak
  • Offers to install without consent where it is clearly needed

About us

Commercial Air Conditioning is a trading name of S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, part of the S&K Group. We survey, specify and price in writing, and refrigerant work is only carried out by F-gas certified engineers working for a certified company, as the law requires — the certificate details are shown on your quote.

Questions

Should we always choose the cheapest quote?

Compare like for like. Quotes that leave out electrics, condensate or access often cost more in the end.

Do you work with our facilities team?

Yes, we work to your permits, method statements and site rules.
