Commercial air conditioning installation

Commercial air conditioning installation is the design, supply, fitting and commissioning of a cooling (and usually heating) system for a business premises. A typical job covers a site survey and heat load calculation, choosing the right system type, running refrigerant pipework and condensate drainage, an electrical supply, commissioning, and the F-gas records the law requires.

Guide price: from £1,950 per indoor unit (zone), ex VAT. See AC installation prices.

Office air conditioning

Office air conditioning is a cooling and heating system designed for the heat loads of an office: people, computers, lighting and sunshine through glazing. Most offices use ceiling cassettes or ducted units on a heat pump or VRF system, with zone controls so meeting rooms and open-plan areas can be set separately.

Guide price: from £2,150 per zone, ex VAT. See office AC prices.

VRF and VRV systems

VRF (variable refrigerant flow) — called VRV by some manufacturers — is a commercial air conditioning system where one outdoor unit, or a bank of them, serves many indoor units through a shared refrigerant network. It varies the flow of refrigerant to each indoor unit, so every zone can be controlled separately, and heat recovery versions can cool some rooms while heating others.

Guide price: from £2,450 per indoor unit (whole system), ex VAT. See VRF / VRV prices.

Ceiling cassette air conditioning

A ceiling cassette is an air conditioning indoor unit that sits inside a suspended ceiling with only a square grille visible. It draws air up through the centre and blows it out in up to four directions, which spreads cooling and heating evenly across open spaces such as offices, shops and restaurants.

Guide price: from £2,150 per cassette, ex VAT. See ceiling cassettes prices.

Ducted air conditioning

Ducted air conditioning uses an indoor unit hidden in the ceiling void or a plant space, connected by ductwork to grilles or slot diffusers in the room. Only the grilles are visible, which makes it the most discreet option for receptions, boardrooms, restaurants and hotel rooms.

Guide price: from £3,450 per ducted zone, ex VAT. See ducted AC prices.

Split and multi-split systems

A split air conditioning system has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit joined by refrigerant pipework. A multi-split connects two to five indoor units to one outdoor unit. They are the simplest and most affordable way to cool and heat individual rooms in small offices, shops, salons and surgeries.

Guide price: from £1,450 per system, ex VAT. See split systems prices.

Air-to-air heat pumps

An air-to-air heat pump takes heat from the outside air and releases it indoors as warm air — the same equipment as reverse-cycle air conditioning, sized and set up for heating. In commercial premises it can replace or reduce electric panel heaters and gas heating, and provides cooling in summer from the same units.

Guide price: from £1,650 per zone, ex VAT. See air-to-air heat pumps prices.

Server room and comms room cooling

Server room cooling is dedicated air conditioning that removes the heat produced by IT equipment around the clock, independently of the office system. It is sized to the IT load in kilowatts, usually installed with a second unit for back-up (N+1), and set up with alarms so a failure is spotted before equipment overheats.

Guide price: from £3,950 per room (duty/standby pair), ex VAT. See server room cooling prices.
